Students will work in partners to create a persuasive text on a topic of their choice. Partners will then use this persuasive text to create a final project online. This final project will enable them to present their opinion piece to a wider audience.
Legacy Lesson 3 Creating a Nonfiction Online Text
Students will work in partners to create their own nonfiction online 'book' using a self directed topic. This lesson follows a nonfiction unit in 'Reader's Workshop' where reading nonfiction texts and how they are organized is examined. Through this lesson students will deepen their understanding of the elements and overall structure of nonfiction texts.
Students will work in partners to research a cultural group or place, with the focus being on developing an understanding of the people; their ways of life, daily norms, practices, values and beliefs. The culmination of this research will be presented in a student selected technologically based medium. Their final project will be presented to a wider audience.
Upon completion of group literature circles students will create a project that reflects their understanding and opinion of their book. Students may decide to create a movie trailer, advertisement, debate or interview. Through this lesson students will further develop and use deeper level comprehension strategies.
Advertisements Presentation
Students will research the effects of advertisements on people and from their research will create a project or presentation that they will use to teach other students about the effects of advertisements.
